Professional Bike Fit:

So what size of bike should I be riding? Do I need a custom bike? My current bike is uncomfortable, do I need a new one? These are all common questions that we face when a customer comes in for a new bike or to fit an existing bike. Our goal is to help you understand how a bike should fit and where fit issues arise from.

Poor bike fit is one of the number one reason a lot of people dislike there present bikes or get turned off cycling completely. It is amazing how many individuals have purchased high end bikes without being sized and fitted properly. Would you buy a Hugo Boss suit without being measured and having the suit tailored ? Bike fitting is a science that has many aspects and problems to consider when fitting an individual. These include: body and limb proportions, weight, male or female, age, injuries, goals and ability. Once these questions are answered we apply them to the type of bike they are buying. The fit for a road bike differs from that of a Tri or TT bike, as does that of a Track bike compared to a Cross bike. Bike fit is an ongoing process that changes as you change, the way your bike is setup now may change two years from now.

All this info can get complicated, that is why we use our Professional Bike Fit System to help you find the right size frame and get it fit properly. This system is based on the the same principles used by top frame makers across the world to make and fit custom frames for Pro athletes. We do not merely rely on formulas, but use them as a reference point of where a good starting point is for the athlete. We use both Static and Dynamic fit principles to optimize your interface with your bike because your biomechanics change as you place load on your limbs.

Once the best bike for you is found, we make the necessary adjustments to fit the bike so it is biomechanically correct to optimize performance and comfort. Bike fitting equipment is only as good as the individual using it. All our Professional Bike Fitting staff have degrees in Kinesiology or Biomechanics and are Elite level racers. We have been fitting athletes for over 12 yrs and have done hundreds of bike fits. When you buy a bike from us or bring in your own bike to get fit, you can be sure that we will do it in a professional and qualified manner.

At Pedalhead Road Works we do not sell off-the-shelf/trim-to-fit generic orthotics/insoles because every foot and every cyclist is different. We have chosen Conform'able as our exclusive range of custom insoles to ensure maximum performance in every pedal stroke. Conform'able custom insoles are used by many top pros such as Basso, Ullrich, Team CSC, Phonak and Thomas Voeckler.

These insoles are engineered to improve power and endurance while protecting joints from wear & tear. Once inserted into your cycling footwear they along with your pedals become the primary guidance system for your feet. The right cycling shoe and custom insole will provide 360 degrees of fit, allowing your muscles and joints to move with less stress and tension, increasing comfort and performance.
